Serial number 87477. A wartime Martin with many of the specs and charms of the prewar era in gently played, original condition. Nice Adirondack spruce top with medium to tight grain, scalloped braces, Brazilian rosewood bridge and fret board, ebony nut, ebony “rod” in the neck, and flat back tuners with the original buttons and no ferrules. The top has a lovely patina with only a well-repaired e-string pick guard crack and a couple of case bites. There is light pick wear across the top, very little of it goes through the finish. The insides are clean and original including the bridge plate. The back has some belt wear but the finish is intact.
As expected, the guitar is as light as a potato chip. It has great projection and resonance, interesting overtones, and nice volume. It’s a joy to play. The neck has a comfortable profile and 1 11/16th nut. We’ve given it a fresh neck set, new frets, and a nice tall saddle, all by Paul Stroh. The ebony nut provides balance across all ranges with strong bass, mids, and trebles. The voice is interesting, the note separation is impressive. It’s a bit of a mini “crusher”. It comes with the original chipboard case which is a bit tattered. We would ship it in something else and send the case along later.
