CASIO Synt / PG380 / 1987 / Black / Guitar

CASIO PG-380 VINTAGE  SYNTHESIZER / MIDI GUITAR Sounds amazing with very very low latency.  Faster tracking than the Roland VG guitar synth.Super excellent conditions  condition! Works Perfectly! HARD CASE AND ORIGINAL MANUAL INCLUDED!

PG-380: This was Casio's top of the line guitar, listing for about US$1500 when new in 1987.. Body: Alder, longer than a Strat's and lacking the tummy cut and armrest contouring of the Strat, due to the numerous cavities routed in the body to accomodate the electronics. Pickups: neck and bridge single-coil, bridge humbucker splittable by a pushpull switch on the tone control. Bridge: Gotoh Floyd Rose-style (licensed) locking vibrato. Neck: Maple with ebony 22-fret fingerboard; locking nut.

"Apart from the synth built in, the guitar itself, a strat style "Ibanez", is of very high quality. Adding the synth makes it THE MOST ADVANCED GUITAR EVER BUILT allowing the full transition from a normal screaming strat to a scary synthezised dentists drill by by slowly turning a knob on the guitar. Seen from the front it looks like a normal strat (S/S/H) with a Hex-pickup close to the floyd rose tremolo and a small panel below. On the panel there are 12 small buttons for controlling patches and octave, a 2-digit LED display, and two LED's for the built-in tuner. Strat-wise there is a five pole pickup selector and controls for tone, guitar volume and synth volume. Apart from a normal DIN MIDI-OUT connector there one mono output for guitar only and a stereo for guitar + synth. The synth can be set to send on six different MIDI channels, one for each string, or everything over one channel. Tracking is very good, and you can even bend the tones to play your favourite blues. The backside is full of electronics and a slot for the ROM cards. Acoustically it has quite a woody sound due to all the chambers routed for electronics"

What makes this guitar unique is that you do not need any external electronics or computer to generate the tones.  The tones are internally generated and go straight to your amp.  Unlike the Roland synth guitars that require a 13 pin connector to connect to external electronics and then out to your amp.
The PG-380 was way ahead of its time when first introduced. Built-in Hex pickup. MIDI capable. Onboard synth tones (64), expandable with RAM / ROM cards. On the front, there is a synth control panel.

On the panel there are 12 small buttons for controlling patches and octave shifts, a 2-digit LED display, and two LED's for the built-in tuner. Strat-wise there is a five position pickup selector (1 humbucker and 2 single coil pickups) and controls for tone, guitar volume and synth volume. Apart from a normal 5 pin DIN MIDI-OUT connector there is one mono output for guitar only and a stereo out for guitar + synth. The synth can be set to send on six different MIDI channels, one for each string, or everything over one channel (So, you can do the Kramer Ripley thing with it). Tracking is very good, and shockingly good with bending notes. The backside is full of electronics and a slot for the ROM cards.  The back also has access to configuration switches and to gain pots for balancing the output of individual strings from the HEX pickup. Does not include the power supply - uses AA batteries and all electronics are working, and put out some very cool sounds. The guitar itself is very nice and playable with Gloss Black finish, bolt-on Maple neck with Ebony fingerboard, and a double-locking Gotoh Floyd Rose style tremolo.  ZERO fret wear considering its age. This PG-380 is a very cool and rare piece.
