Charvel / SD II Custom Shop / 1995 / Natural / Guitar For Sale
The guitar is entirely hand made by the craftsmen who built the first guitars in the late seventies in the Jackson Custom Shop in Ontario, California. They built these reissue series just before Charvel was bought by Fender to honor the very sought after and valuable early series, between 1995 and 1996. For this reason they used all their skills and the best wood and components.
They ONLY made 319 guitars from this model (SD II), using three body woods. Mahogany, Koa and Lacewood. To my knowledge they produced approximately 150 in Mahogany. Hence, very collectible!!!
The guitar is in excellent condition, close to mint in every aspect. It only had light studio use. No rust, No buckle marks, No scratches!!!
Extremely well made, very resonant and light - Approximately 3.5 kg . Amazing tone!
The serial number is 950766 and it is made in 1995.
A real Custom Shop Charvel from the original Charvel team!!!
The body is made from solid Mahogany and as you can see the grain is absolutely fantastic. A lot of people confused it with Koa, but it is Mahogany, which is very hard and valuable to find due to the latest CITES restrictions. Please compare it with the new reissues and see the difference by yourself.
The neck is made of birdseye maple and has 24 frets with the famous Charvel profile. The neck hill joint is slightly inclined and the lower horn of the body is contoured so to have complete access to the last frets. The playability of this guitar is superb!!!
The whole guitar is oil finish for maximum tone and resonance. The pickups are custom made Di Marzio, the tremolo is Wilkinson VS 100 and the tuners are Sperzels. This particular combination of Wilkinson / Sperzel is by far better compared to the Floyd Rose locking nut alternative. Not only the guitar stays in perfect tune, but due to the high quality of the woods that were used the craftsmen decided to capture the resonance from the headstock to the actual bridge and not to limited it from the nut.
Most of the early Charvels were built this way, using the old fashioned Fender style tremolo ( sometimes Brass) or the Brass Stop Tail.
