Egmond Guitars begon toen gepensioneerd stationchef Ulke Egmond in het begin van de dertiger jaren in de Kerkstraat te Eindhoven een muziekhandel opende en al gauw begon met het bouwen van gitaren, getuige het feit dat Jan-Maarten Hafkamp een Spaanse gitaar in zijn bezit heeft met daarin het etiket “Egmond Freres anno 1935”. In 1940 deden de zonen Gerard, Dick en Jaap hun intrede en er ontstond een klein familiebedrijf, dat gestaag groeide.
In 1950 had Egmond inmiddels 15 werknemers en produceerde 200 akoestische gitaren per week. De fabriek in Eindhoven werd te klein en verhuisde het bedrijf naar Best. Hier begon de stormachtige groei van Egmond niet in het minst door de introductie van hun elektrische gitaar. De productie methodes werden in hoge mate geïndustrialiseerd en in het midden van de zestiger jaren was Egmond na Eko de grootste gitarenfabrikant in Europa.
Egmond 1964 Colorado 2ES1 2-Color Sunburst
De Egmond Colorado is een solidbody elektrische gitaar die veel weg heeft van een Fender Jazzmaster. Deze gitaar heeft twee pickups, regelaars voor toon en volume, een driestanden pickup switch en een vibrato. Afgezien van de wat dikke hals speelt deze gitaar uitstekend. De pickups hebben een heldere klank die de gitaar een interessant enigzins Gretsch-achtig karakter geven.
