Fender / Jazzmaster / 1962 / Lake Placid Blue / Guitar

This 1962 Lake Placid Blue Jazzmaster is in great condition. It has typical features of this era, like a thick but laminated rosewood fretboard, black fiber bobbin pickups wound to a high output (dc resistance 8.5kOhms), single-line Kluson machineheads, the small pre-CBS era headstock with Spaghetti-logo and a mint pickguard. The finish is apart from a few dents and some crazing lines in remarkable condition. It still looks very vibrant and hasn’t faded to green like many other blue guitars that saw a lot of daylight. The finish on the back of the neck is also still in good almost unworn condition.

Compared to later CBS-era Jazzmasters this guitar has quite a full sound. It’s a very comfortable player thanks to the typical for this year somewhat full but very regular shaped neck. The original frets still have plenty of life left and are perfectly usable as is.

At some time a previous owner decided to add a second switch next to the rhythm/lead selection slider switch, which left a gap in the original pickguard. Also below the pickguard a small cavity was routed out to fit the switch. In order to make the guitar look original we’ve fitted a very accurate repro mint pickguard but the original is also included with the sale. Unfortunately the bridge pickup died because of old age, leaving very limited output and no measurable DC resistance. We’ve had this pickup restored and rewound to original specs and refitted it to the original connection wires, in order to disturb the wiring harness as little as possible.

This Jazzmaster is sold with it’s original whammy bar and a worn but original and period-correct Fender case.
