Player's Perspective
Music Store Live is proud to present this 1959 Fender Precision Bass! This bass is deep. Super deep. The tone goes on and inward for what seems like miles. A vintage P Bass may have a fairly simply layout but the tone is anything but. When you consider how many famous recordings' foundations were laid with these basses, it's a staggering concept. The feel of this beast is very impressive. It is broken in in a way that only 50 plus years of real playing can produce. It is soft. It is warm. It is well rounded. Above all, it is resonant! It vibrates like Thor's hammer with each note and we are sure it will add plenty of magic mojo to any recording session. It is set up very well right now and for a bass that's over 50 years old it only shows the slightest hair of a buzz here and there. This P bass can be played and enjoyed regularly.
Item Details
Late 1950's Fender Precision Basses are some of the most desirable and collectable basses Fender ever produced, especially Sunburst models with anodized gold pickguards such as this one. This is an excellent and extremely collectable bass.
This 1959 Fender Precision Bass is finished in Sunburst. It is all original with the exception of the nut, frets and an older light coat of overspray on the neck only. The body finish has never been tampered with. The maple neck pencil dates to 3/59. The numbers 4402 can be seen on a sticker on the back of the neck heel and neck pocket. These numbers usually denote that the guiar was worked on at the Fender factory during the CBS era. It is most likely that this bass had its frets and nut replaced during this time and received the neck overspray all at the same time in the 60's. The finish on the neck feels very much like a neck that has decades of play time on it to break it in smoothly.
The electronics appear to have not been tampered with at all. The solder joints are original and the bass plays without any scratchy noise or issues. The original white chicklet capacitor can be seen untouched. The pots date to the 25th week of 1958.
Some stand out features on this bass include the gold anodized pickgaurd, maple neck, maple fretboard, black dot inlays, P bass split coil pickup with cover, bridge cover, reverse wind tuners and thumb rest. The original foam mute is still inside the bridge cover. This bass comes with a newer Tweed style hard shell case.

Overall Condition
This 1959 Fender Precision Bass is in good to very good condition. The most significant wear should be obvious in our photos. The back has an area of finish the size of your splayed hand that has been roughed up from years of playing. It is mainly finish wear but the contoured ridge has wear that reaches the wood. The rest of the body shows typical lighter wear that's associated with regular playing. The forearm area, body edges and pickguard show smaller areas of wear. The back of the neck is very smooth from years of playing and the finish is nicely broken in. We'd rate this neck a 9 out of 10 from a players point of view! The fretboard shows some basic finish wear but there's not any real pitting to speak of which is nice. The frets are in very good plus condition with a ton of life left to give. Please call for an in hand description of this terrific P Bass. This is the real deal and we are happy to answer your questions. No issues. No huge mods or changes to the guitar. Just 100% pure righteous P Bass tone.
