Fender / Precision Bass, P- Bass / 1974 / Sunburst / Bass For Sale

2895 USD

Man, is it ever nice to be talking about vintage basses around here for a change. I think I'm about Les Paul'd out, for Pete's sake! After we got this girl in, I did my usual Sunday afternoon ritual, which consists of grabbing a few St. Paulie Girls and heading towards the workroom. I disassembled, cleaned and photographed the interior of this bass, restrung her and took her downstairs for the photo shoot. As I was moving the bass around for the various shots, I kept thinking, "Man, this neck feels great...and small". I finished up with the camera and sat down to play it for a few minutes when I realized that the neck felt exactly like my favorite Jazz bass neck. I measured it at the nut- it's 1 1/2" and the more I played the bass, the more I liked it. This thing literally begged me to play some Iron Maiden. Believe me, I happily obliged and found that the bass is almost effortless to play and the tone is stunning. I'd roll the highs off a bit and it sounded as warm as a cup of coffee. Next thing I knew, I'd been on it for about 45 minutes and then there was the wife with a fresh cool beer. My God, it could not get any better. So, Lee comes in on Monday and I'm all excited like a jack rabbit going, "You gotta hear this bass- it friggin rules" and off I tore again, playing a bunch of Maiden and KISS. Big smile on my face of course and after I stopped, the tall one looked at me and said, "Don't even thing about it" (note to self- the next time I'm playing a bass that I want to keep, don't smile like a baby crawling around in a bathtub full of chocolate ice cream). I quietly nodded in agreement because I do have more basses laying around here than one man deserves and this bass truly belongs with a guy that plays out or records with some kind of regularity. It's like having a Jazz bass with a perfect, round P- bass tone and this neck is so sweet, I can't put it into words. You'll just have to feel it for yourself and to whomever buys this bass, if it doesn't immediately bring a smile to your face when you play it, I'll refund your money and you keep the T- shirt. It won't hurt my feelings a bit if this one just stuck around for a while and maybe Lee will get short memory syndrome and think it's a Warwick or something. I'll say it again; It's got the tone, the feel and the neck of death. She weighs in at 9 lbs, 9 oz., so even an old fart like me could do four sets in the club with no problem (other than some old lady coming up to me and slurring, "Hey Ray- remember me from high school"?) This is a rare, great one, fellow bottom- enders, so give me a yell with any questions. Oh, the bass is completely original and has the earlier, "long G" bridge. Nice to have that when you're intonating that high string!
