Fender / Swinger (duo Sonic / Musicmaster) / 1969 / Dakota Red / Guitar

One of the rarest Fender guitars ever made and arguably one of the coolest looking too! The Swinger was a short lived model only produced in 1969 under direction of CBS by means to make some cash on unused parts. The body’s were re-shaped leftover part’s from the commercially unsuccessful Bass V, while the neck’s were 22,5″ scale necks that were meant for the Musicmaster and Duo-Sonic. Those would ultimately continue to be available only with a 24″ scale-lenght, hence the overstock of short scaled necks. The Swinger was never mentioned in any Fender catalog, and has remained a rather unknown model, with production numbers estimated at around only 250-300 piece! Because of it’s rarity and historic value these have become very sought after by collectors these days.

Over the years there has been some confusion on what the correct name of this mode would be, as most examples left the factory with just a Fender decal on the headstock. Though some guitars did leave the factory with an additional “Swinger” this model is therefor also known as the Arrow or Musiclander. As these were made from overstock parts, the dating on each individual part will vary. For instance the neck stamp on this example reads 1967, while the pots read 1966 (common until about 1970), and the serialnumber is consistent with 1969, which is the actual year of production.

This particular Swinger is in excellent+ condition, which makes it an even rarer find! You will be able to find a handful of these on the international market, but you’d be hard-pressed to find one without any modifications or alterations, and this one is 100% original and very clean! A very well preserved vintage piece in collectors grade condition. There is just a modest bit of play-wear , some light finish-checking, and a small blemish on the back of the neck. All very acceptable for a 47 year old guitar. Even the original hardcase has an almost mint appearance!

Very collectible, yet also very attractive for a player looking for a vintage piece with a funky stage-presence of it’s own!
