Fender / Volume Tone Pedal / 1975 / Silver / Black / Effect

This 1975 Fender Volume Tone Pedal is a NOS find from our store warehouse. It was never sold and put away in storage at some time, presumably in the late seventies. Therefore it's in mint, nearly unused condition.

It works great especially for pedal- or lapsteel when operated from a seated position but will work with any electric guitar. The Allen Bradley potentiometer offers a very gradual and smooth volume swell and the tone function gives this pedal a usable added effect.

The pedal is sold with the original box (the lid is missing alas) and an unused vintage Fender cable.

Quoted from the "Fender Amps: The First Fifty Years" book by John Teagle / John Sprung: "DeArmond and Bigsby had been offering a combination volume-and-tone pedal before Fender had even its Volume Pedal, and many steel players considered it a necessary part of their setup. Muted runs, ascending slides from muted to full treble (à la “Looney Tunes”), imitating trains and the human voice - these were just a few of the tricks made possible with such a pedal. In 1958 Fender finally offered its version, with the standard front-to-back movement controlling the volume, while side-by-side movement turned a tone roll-off control. The rubber pad originally bore the Fender name in block letters; this was changed to a script logo around 1962. This version remained basically unchanged until it was dropped, along with the Volume Pedal, in 1984.
Although these pedals didn’t generate a great deal of income for Fender, there was no real expense in keeping them in the line as a customer service; moreover, by discontinuing them, Fender left its potential customers with no choice but to buy and use a pedal with a name on it other than theirs. Oh, well…."
