Gibson Custom Shop / Allen Collins Explorer / 2003 / Korina / Guitar
We've been listing vintage Martin cases and acoustics lately and when I just couldn't take it anymore, I made a guerrilla trip to the 'Elk vault. Now you have to understand that I'm taking my very life into my own hands when I do this, because I look for cool, rare and unique things to pull out and photograph. Meanwhile, if I'm caught by the "one who walks in the night", aka one Lee Jackson, the question always comes out, "Man, aren't there enough 'Pauls and Strats in there for you to grab"? Then, I'm usually clocked in the noggin with something fairly solid and the lights go out for a while... In the meantime, I've managed to escape with what is one of the rarest guitars we have in the stash and I'm quite excited to see one surface for a change. We understand from Gibson's original publication that there were 100 of these guitars to be made, but the general consensus is that the run was incomplete. Truth be told, we're not sure how many of these Collins Explorers exist, but this guitar bears the highest serial number we can ever recall seeing. There may be higher numbers out there, but let's just say that this is the highest currently available and leave it at that. The package is complete and original with the exception of the flight case ( this guitar originally was sold by the place that's so famous for "comes with a gigbag, Man". I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when that happened with this particular guitar... In any event, this one comes in the Custom Shop case you see pictured and it protects the guitar quite nicely so just when you think we've run out of cool things to show, give me five minutes and I'll sneak back into the vault, even at my own peril...
