Player's Perspective
Music Store Live is proud to present this 1947 Gibson ES-125! Wow! Another killer ES-125! You should know that this writer has developed a slight bias towards these beauties. The feel that these guitars give off for the money is just phenomenal and the tone is wonderful. This ES-125 is strung up with flat wounds currently though it still has a nice even brightness to it. The tone is full and woody when played acoustic with nice projection and a snappy response to it. Plugged in, this axe is perfect for any variety of Blues, Folk, Swing and Jazz. Finger style players and flat pickers will both love the sound and feel. There is a hair of a buzz on the 2nd fret however it plays great in every position.
Item Details
This 1947 Gibson ES-125 is largely original. The only things that seem to have been replaced are the buttons on the original tuning machines, the pick guard and the frets. The fully hollow Sunburst body measures 16 1/4" wide and 3.5 thick approximately. The mahogany neck features a luxurious and fat 50's rounded profile, Brazilian rosewood fretboard and pearloid dot inlays. The dog ear PAF P-90 single coil pickup sounds amazing and has adjustable pole pieces so you can balance the pickup the way you like it. Other fine features include a silkscreen logo on the headstock, tortoise grain pick guard, trapeze tailpiece a single bound top and back. The pots date to the 16th week of 1947. The hard shell case is an older replacement.
Overall Condition
This 1947 Gibson ES-125 is in very good condition. It still plays and sounds great. There is one smaller top crack beneath the pickguard that you may or may not be able to see in the photos. It is 2 inches long and near the treble side binding but doesn't touch the binding. The binding on the guitar has aged a bit and shrunk a little but it's all in tact. The finish shows general checking throughout. The top of the headstock has a little hole drilled into it. The frets show minimal to moderate wear depending on what position you're in. We'll say it again - we love these guitars! They're still affordable and they carry the tone and feel of a great vintage axe! Who in their right mind wouldn't want this guitar?!?!
