Gibson / ES- 335 CRS / 1979 / Dixie Brown Sunburst / Guitar
Lee and I have been talking lately and came to the conclusion that our Gibson semi- hollowbody faction was a little under represented, so in order to correct that inequality, we'd like to offer this 1979 ES-335 CRS. These are somewhat rare guitars with only 300 being made in 1979 and if it's tonal nirvana you seek, then this is the machine to end your quest. To begin, CRS stands for Country/ Rock/ Stereo and the very name alone should indicate the many things that this guitar can do. The epoxy- backed, Bill Lawrence pickups are a little hotter than regular humbuckers, which would certainly cover the "Rock" part of it's name but if you back off of the volume, they butter up quite nicely and slide into a warm and creamy tone. Gibson should have included a "B" for Blues in the name because that is when the volume is eased back a little, you get one of the sweetest Blues tones you'll ever hear out of the guitar. It's surprising how much control you can have over the tone by just manipulating the volume knob. The TP-6 Fine Tune tailpiece allows you to tune on the fly if needed and if you enjoy the versatility of coil- tapped pickups, just reach for the toggle switch on the lower horn and there you are! Each pickup has a 1/4" output in the event you need a stereo setup and because this guitar came from a private Chet Atkins collection, it's in collector quality condition. We love unique and rare instruments; This guitar falls nicely into both categories and is a pleasure to play. Please feel free to call or email with any questions and we'll show you how quickly they can be answered!
