Gibson / ES-335 Dot Reissue / 1988 / Tobacco Sunburst / Guitar
Seeing this Dot for the first time reminded me of the time Lee and I made a 30- hour guerrilla trip to pick up a 1959 ES-335 from it's original owner. It was one of our more memorable trips, to say the least but that's a story for another time. I think the thing that first "spoke" to us was the color of this piece; it's a gorgeous Tobacco sunburst with light figuring on the Maple top. I wasn't quite sure about the neck profile, so I put it into the able hands of my business partner, "Too Short" and he came away with the feeling that it is between a rounded '59 and slim 60's neck profile. In any instance, it's incredibly comfortable and easy for even a bass player to get around on. The tone and entire feel of the guitar harkens back to the vibe of the "old ones" and easily bests the newer models. It's just not as...shiny and new as a recent reissue and again, one of the several reasons we liked it so much from the moment we saw it. We have an affinity for these late 80's- early 90's Gibsons, especially when it comes to Les Pauls and 335's, so you can rest assured that we only seek out the finest examples to be had anywhere.
