Player's Perspective
Music Store Live is proud to present this 2012 Gibson J-200 Standard! The J-200 represents over 75 years of refinement and improvement. First introduced in 1937, this guitar has become the jumbo-bodied standard by which other acoustics are judged. It has an enormous body and plenty of tone and natural volume to go with it. You can really feel the wood vibrate, which makes playing this guitar a whole-body experience. The lows have a bell-like weightiness to them, the mids are clear and full and the high-end is articulate and crisp. This guitar can fill a room with sound before it's plugged in, but if you need some extra volume, the on-board pickup system does a great job of showcasing the sound of the guitar rather than the sound of the pickup. The neck is very full and round, sure to satisfy fingerpickers, flatpickers, and strummers alike. This is a big, resonant guitar with enough tone to keep you busy for a lifetime. Over time, it's only going to sound and play better and better.
Item Details
This J-200 Standard features a solid AAA spruce top with curly maple back and sides. The neck is maple, and it's very substantial and round - lots of neck to really dig in on, but not enough to slow you down. The Fishman Ellipse Aura electronic system on this guitar does wonders. It amplifies all dimensions of the sound while staying faithful the subtleties of acoustic music. 20 frets and crown inlays sit atop a rosewood fretboard. The 1.725" nut width is wide enough for fingerpickers but will also please strummers and flatpickers. Grover Rotomatic tuners keep everything locked down, no matter how hard you play. The bone nut and saddle transmit the strings' vibrations exceptionally well and make for smoother tuning. This guitar is known as the "King of the Flat Tops," and with good reason. You'll have a tough time finding a louder and better sounding jumbo-bodied acoustic.
Overall Condition
This Gibson J-200 Standard is in excellent condition. There are two small finish cracks in the middle of the upper bout's side. One is about an inch and a half, and the other is just a few millimeters. They're both not noticeable unless you look for them, and the dark finish does a good job of almost hiding them entirely. They don't affect tone or playability in any way. Other than that, this guitar is clean. There are virtually no marks on the pickguard. The J-200 has been the gold standard for jumbo-bodied acoustics since it was introduced in 1937. This guitar is ready for years and years of service, and it'll only sound and play better with age.
