Gibson / J-45-N / 1942 / Guitar For Sale
1942 Gibson J-45-N, J-50 Mahogany-Red Spruce, HC, EC
Gibson J-45N, 1942, FON#7117H-5. Weighs like a feather and sounds impressive like only a pre-war Gibson J-45 canon can. It's impressive how Gibson was able to create some of their finest guitars ever made during one of the most difficult era's of Gibson history. The Sound and Dynamics are unmistakenly Gibson J-45 from the banner era and a banner Gibson from this era cannot be replaced by say a Martin D-18/D-28. And altough prices of Banner Gibson are rapidly increasing, it's rather strange to see a Martin sell for triple the money, knowing these Banner Gibsons were made in even smaller numbers and are of a similar tonal quality. This guitar is in wonderful original condition, and comes with the tone and feel you'd expect from a 70 year old Banner.
On top of all this guitar it's almost crackfree, of course there is numerous crazing and a few superfical laquer cracks that don't go through the wood (we checked each and every one) the pickguard crack running along the original pickguard (non firestrip for the Natural top!) and 2 tight repaired backcracks, It's infact one of the cleanest we cam across and the finish is all original except for some overspray near the endpin area (bottom sides) over the original laquer, darkening away a small crack we noticed checking from the inside.
The bridge is replaced twice, first a belly bottom and then a original 1" brazilian is put back on. In the procedure the maple bridge plate was replaced at one point, not a big issue with Gibson (as it would have been with Martin) but it needs to be mentioned. The Dark brazilian fingerboard is in excellent condition, and so are the frets, an older and excellent refret with vintage original style frets. The Guitar has never seen a neck reset and doesn't need one, playabillity is excellent low with lots of saddle left to adjust more. The Guitar shows original Finish throughout and shows relatively very little traces of wear. The mocking style pickguard is orignal and standard to J-45N models. Guitar shows original and perfectly working condition tuners that have been on and of the guitar. There is no need for repairs or any work in the nearby future, simply enjoy this wonderful and very rare pre-war guitar, that can still be had undert 10.000€. The neck is a Typical Banner Fat C, with 44.5mm (1 3/4”) Width at the nut and 628mm (24.7/8”) scale length. This is one of the nicest we’ve ever came across.
A superb vintage almost 70 year old J-45N -J-50 From the first year of the Banner J-45 with excellent playability and low action in a rarely seen excellent condition with later Gibson Case. If you want to put your money in a safer place then a bank…this might be a very good idea!
