Gibson / Les Paul Recording / 1977 / Walnut / Guitar

The Gibson Les Paul Recording was issued by Gibson in 1971 and was based on the preferences of Les Paul himself. It features low impedance pickups and enhanced electronics and was designed for use in the studio, plugged in directly into a mixing desk. In this environment this guitar is a very versatile tool that is able to bring a wide variety of sounds. Gibson used video to market this instrument, showing the ability to imitate Rickenbacker and Fender Telecaster guitars.

This late 1977 Gibson Les Paul Recording guitar is an example of the second iteration of this instrument. It has the second version of the control panel but deviates from others from the same era: the toggle switch is in the for a Les Paul conventional position at the upper bout instead of on the control panel. Also, this guitar has a maple top with rosewood fretboard, not the full mahogany w/ ebony fretboard construction of other, earlier versions.

It’s a great playing late seventies Gibson in great condition. There’s little playing wear, the frets are still very good and have plenty of life left. The low-impedance pickups give this Les Paul a clearer voice than more common Les Paul types that is quite unique. With careful adjustment of the controls there’s a very wide range of sounds ready to be explored.
