Player's Perspective
Music Store Live is proud to present this 1960 Gretsch 6124 Single Anniversary! This almost 65 year old jazz box will give you the authentic tone and unbeatable playability you can find only in an aging hollowbody. The tone is dark, full, and has an acoustic edge even when amplified. The maple top and body make single note lines project and fill chords with an articulate depth that needs to be felt to be believed. We've given this guitar a thorough set up. The neck is straight, the intonation is spot on, and the action is medium/low. The pickup is warm and thickens up nicely with a little grit. Whether you're looking for authentic jazz tone or a country, blues, or honky tonk rock machine, this Gretsch will deliver.
Item Details
This 1960 Gretsch 6124 Single Anniversary is all original with the exception of a replaced inlay at the first fret, a repair to the "T" in the name on the headstock, and a replaced pickup ring. Everything else about this guitar is original and sounds and works wonderfully. The body, top, sides and neck are all maple. The fretboard is ebony, which is a nice break from rosewood and maple. Gretsch's rosewood-based Space Roller Bridge makes for easy adjustments and great intonation. The single neck pickup is a Gretsch PAF Filtertron Humbucker, and the electronics are nice and simple: one tone switch and one volume knob. Serial number 32623.
Overall Condition
This 1960 Gretsch Single Anniversary 6124 is in very good plus condition. There are the normal marks one would expect on a guitar almost 65 years old. There is some light buckle worming on the back, and a few finish scratches on the top. The "T" in the name logo at the top has been replaced, and the first pearl thumbnail inlay is a replacement. The pickup ring has been replaced as well. The frets are in very good condition and have plenty of life left on them. The fingerboard of frets 18-21 has been filed lightly under the low E string. This is a vintage guitar with plenty of life left in it. This instrument is perfect for recording, gigging, or displaying.
