Player's Perspective
Music Store Live is proud to present this 1960 Gretsch Double Anniversary! This dark and articulate Double Anniversary is truly a piece of guitar history. This jazz box has the depth and resonance associated with old hollowbodies. The tone is fat and warm, and you can get that acoustic edge to your sound that jazz players have been looking for since the days of Charlie Christian. That's not to say that she isn't a kiler blues & country machine either. No sir. This gal is down to party! There is some buzzing on the high E string, but keep in mind that this guitar is working its way toward its 65th birthday. The sanded neck is very comfortable to play a multitude of styles on, but certainly the tone will gravitate the player more toward jazz. If you want to own a guitar vital to the lineage of the instrument, get your hands on this Gretsch.
Item Details
This 1960 Gretsch Double Anniversary is all original with the exception of the switch tips. It features a lovely Sunburst finish on the maple body. The body is outlined with white binding that has faded to a buttery cream color. The neck is maple and the rosewood fretboard has aged well and is easy to navigate. The tuners, bridge, nut and pickups are all original, and they don't show any sign of giving out any time soon. The neck has been sanded, which is very comfortable. Lets talk about these Hi'LoTron single coil pickups for a minute. Sure it's not as famous as the FilterTron or Dynasonic single coils, but if you are looking for clarity and warmth combined with the tone that only comes from a properly aged pickup than this is for you! The original 'G logo' has faded off over the years but the important thing is that the magnets are still strong and the windings are completely intact, just as they were in 1960. Lay into it with a slide and you'll see what we're talking about. The hard shell case is not the original, but it is period correct and fits the guitar very well. Serial number 37553.
Overall Condition
This 1960 Gretsch Double Anniversary is in very good condition. There are normal playing marks on the top and back, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a guitar this age. The binding has faded from white to a nice cream color. The Sunburst finish is in great shape. The frets were probably leveled at some point, but they're in great condition and have plenty of life left on them. There is some buzzing on the high E string, and we think this guitar would benefit from having a neck reset. We've gone ahead and priced this guitar to sell accordingly. This terrific vintage Gretsch represents a vital part of guitar history. It will be a welcome addition to any collection.
