Jmi / JMI 4 / 2000's / Fawn / Amp

The JMI 4 offers great British rock sound at reasonable levels -10W-, beautiful clean tones, fantastic crunch and wonderful construction -point-to-point-, with very detailed aesthetic features.

No, we won't try to fool anyone by saying "this is an exact copy of the golden-era Vox AC10", because it isn't. And we're not sure it ever really intended to be. Aesthetically it's very similar, no doubt. But as far as the circuit design goes, they're totally different: single-ended (original was push-pull), ECC83 preamp stage (original was EF86), nonexistent EZ81 rectifier tube... So yes, there are some differences.

So why do we have this amp in our store, you might wonder? Because it sounds great. REALLY great, light years away from the Chinese VOX repros made today. The JMI 4 must be understood as what it is: a great low-watt amp inspired in the AC10, but a breed of its own, with its unique sound palette. British? No doubt about it. It also features a high-quality tremolo (one of those you can actually use), Celestion Greenback, and a very resonant cabinet full of boutique-grade details.

The sound is -yes, you guessed right- fantastic, specially the clean tones (very clear and very British). It overdrives beautifully when you crank the volume, and thanks to the 10W this is something that can be done without going deaf. The result is a great sharp crunch, placing it again in the Brit genre. Those Fender fans looking for creamy tones might not find that here exactly. And yes, the term "British" does come up a lot, but it is the best word to define this amp. Oh, and these ARE made in England!

This is one of the early units, with the looks of an original AC10. What's so special about it being an early unit? Basically the grid cloth, which still has the diamond-shaped patterns on it. This changed when JMI received a legal complaint and had to change it to weird-looking shapes. You won't find them like this one anymore.

The fawn tolex looks very elegant, in our opinion better than the black one.

Those seeking an amp for their apartment, be advised: crunch levels are loud for a flat. It IS a great tool for the studio or the small pub.

The amp is in almost like-new condition. Previous owner was a living-room player, and it was hardly ever used. Could it be mistakenly thought to be new? Definitely.

A great chance of getting your hands on a boutique amp, not easy to find,  that will delight anyone requiring a Brit Rock sound machine.

In the last few years, online sale for musical instruments has experienced an amazing growth, but has passed right through the pre-owned market (that is, in Spain), limiting it to specialised forums and private owners. This is why Guitar Giraffe was born, the first physical and online second hand guitar and amp store (we like to call it "pre-owned", since we see a big difference between both terms), with a clear commitment of giving new options to guitarists locally and worldwide. Pre-owned guitar stores, so common in UK and USA, were practically nonexistent in Spain. We’ve wanted to fill that empty space by becoming the first physical and online store in our country focused on pre-owned guitars and amps.
