Player's Perspective
Music Store Live is proud to present this 1946 Martin 00-18! This small body killer has one of the most comfortable necks that have passed through here in recent memory. It is really nice and full feeling. We set the guitar up very well for you. The action is set medium low, the neck is straight and it plays in tune all the way up the neck. This is a terrific fingerstyle guitars as well as a pleasing strummer. I can see writing a lot of music on a guitar like this. It oozes great tone and this neck feels like a million bucks. It has a surprising amount of low end too for a guitar its size. This would make a great addition to any vintage acoustic collection.
Item Details
This 1946 Martin 00-18 has remained largely original through the past 65 years with only a few changes for routine maintenance. This guitar features a spruce top, mahogany back and sides and a mahogany neck with a very nicely rounded D / U shape profile. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard features dot inlays and 14 frets clear the body. The rosewood bridge is original and there is no lifting associated with it whatsoever. The bone saddle is a replacement as are the frets, two bridge pins and the end pin. The tortoise style pickguard has also been replaced. As for the tuners, 5 of them are unmarked original Klusons and one of them is a generic replacement. The neck on this 00-18 has been recently reset by a trusted professional. This is a killer playing and sounding vintage 00-18 and we're sure you'll be very happy with it. It also comes with a new hard shell case.
Overall Condition
This 1946 Martin 00-18 is in very good condition. This guitar plays and sounds very good and shows the wear of an instrument that, for 65 years now, has only been lightly played and undergone routine maintenance. You should be able to see all of the most prominent wear in our photos. There is a small ding on the treble side of the neck near the 3rd fret and a really light ding behind the 4th fret. As I played this guitar I did not noticed these until they were pointed out to me by our tech. The fretboard has been leveled, most likely when the refret took place and the frets are in excellent condition. This is a great vintage 00-18 - plain and simple. If you're on the hunt for one of these or something similar just consider that even after 65 years this one shows a very minimal amount of finish checking and shows no signs of being refinished. Structurally it is totally sound and ready to be enjoyed regularly. This guitar will only increase in value over time and it will make a great addition to a vintage collection.
