Martin / D-18 / 1944 / Natural / Guitar For Sale
Description: Here’s an “OMG-it’s-light-as-a-feather” D-18 with all the usual characteristics – ebony rod, original flat back tuners with plastic buttons and no ferrules, thin milky finish, scalloped braces, ebony bridge and fretboard, and a nicely shaped, soft-V neck with a 1 11/16-inch nut. It’s had a fresh neck set and new frets installed.
A new replica bridge replaces an oversized job but it does not completely disguise the shadow. A new bridge plate was needed but it is the correct size and thickness and correctly tucked into the slots under the X-brace. There’s lots of checking on the top and a couple of the checks turned into cracks but those are now tightly repaired. One back crack was repaired long ago. Structurally the guitar has been returned to its original specs and is solid. I am using Martin’s bluegrass strings (a combination of light and medium) and it just sings. It has a big, robust bass, great punch on the mids, and bright trebles – an ideal voice for old time bluegrass. It’s still with its original case – a brown Lifton with the burgundy interior that I see more often than not on the 43-46 Martin Dreads.
