Matchless / The Independence / Amp
The Independence 35 is the first 35 watt 3 channel guitar amplifier in Matchless’ history! In addition to the signature backlit nameplate, the three channels light up red, white, and blue.
Channel one (blue) is powered by one 12AX7 with a volume and tone control. Channel two (white) is powered by one 12AX7 and will provide ample chunk and crunch. Channel three (red) is all about fire. The master volume control is by-passable and features a cut control to thicken up and shave the highs. The power section of the Independence starts with a 5AR4 rectifier tube and the 35 watt output is powered by the two EL34s, which are cathode self biasing. A 3 position rotary switch allows for 4, 8, & 16 ohm output. The channels are switched through one footswitch jack.
"I plugged in to an "Independence" combo at the 2006 Namm show and fell off my chair. Phil from Matchless silently looked at me and then pulled the 1/4" jack out and plugged it into a "DC-30" model combo and said "now play" and I just had no more words or energy left. I just sat there and looked at him with a dizzyness I have never experienced.... Tone, tone, swirlies and more tone...... to die for!
Can you say Marshall crunch, Dumble swirlies in 3D, meets the rectified bounce of the DC-30 with the tone and quack of Hendrix/Stevie Ray oozing through the celestion Golds! My goodness. All hand wired with absolutely no circuit boards of any kind using n.o.s. allen bradlys and secrets only the little speaker eating mice over there know about.
A Swiss trained Master Watchmaker would be proud of you Matchless boys! ."

Matchless Amplifiers, USA
Back in 1989 Matchless Amplifiers set out to design and build the best guitar amplifier on the market. Working with professional musicians it became clear that this amp would have to be versatile yet durable. It would have to meet the exacting standards of the studio yet be able to go on the road. The amp would have to be true Class A design, hand wired to military-like specifications with the best materials available. No circuit boards would be used. No short cuts would be taken.
The result was the legendary DC-30 which won the Guitar Player Magazine amplifier shootout in 1992 and which continues to set the standard for guitar amplifiers. Soon after the stunning success of the C-30 line of amplifiers, Matchless introduced the Clubman, Chieftain, Lightning and an entire line of extension cabinets. With an outstanding family of products it's no wonder that Matchless is the preferred amp for some of the best-known musicians in the world.
