Amalfitano Pickups / The J-Bass Set / 2010's / Guitar

The Amalfitano J-Bass set brings you all the subtlties of vintage Jazz® Bass tone plus a little bit more. The J-Bass set features Alnico 5 magnets which impart a smooth top end clarity as well as a nice fat low end punch. The Alnico V magnets are scatter wound by hand with 43 gauge solderon wire. This combination gives a true vintage vibe with musical complexity and beautiful harmonic overtones. Each pickup is slightly overwound just the right ammount to emphasize the midrange and add punch without overshadowing the classic tone that you expect.   The neck pickup is reverse wound for a hum canceling effect when used together with the bridge pickup.   All Amalfitano bass pickups feature vintage color-coded cloth covered wire leads and are lightly wax potted to reduce the chance of microphonics.

Did you ever want your guitar to sound better?

I was frustrated by the flat response mine had. I went through a lot of name brand pickups which got to be expensive.

Several years ago, I purchased a used guitar that had come with one dead pickup. I decided to dissect it to see if I could repair it. After constructing a simple winder, I had it rewound and working. Everyone that heard the guitar commented how good that pickup sounded.

I then discovered and researched the basics about hand winding pickups.

When pickup construction is automated, the thin magnetic wire is wound around the bobbin very uniformly, similar to the appearance of a brand new spool of sewing thread. The pickup then inherits a somewhat lifeless, sterile sounding property that one is unaware of until you A/B it with a properly hand-wound pickup.

The hand-wound, non-uniform, wire layering technique known as scatter-winding affects the musical characteristics of the pickup, submitting itself to a broader spectrum of frequencies and harmonics.

Once you experience AMALFITANO PICKUPS, you'll never want to use "off the shelf" brands again.

Because I am a custom pickup maker, I can produce an infinite variety of "Builds" which means that my pickups can be tailored to suit your guitar and amp configuration.

About Me

I am a native New Yorker and together with my wife, relocated to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in 1995. We purchased a new house, and in 1999 were blessed with a beautiful son.

I started fiddling with guitars in 1972 and today I build, repair them and have about 23 in my collection. I maintain all of my guitars, some of which are newer originals and some are older vintage ones. I've improved six of them by installing my own pickups and am very satisfied with their tone. I consider myself fortunate to have the knowledge and ability to build custom pickups.

I have been in the technical field of commercial aviation since 1983 and apply this professional discipline and experience to my customers needs. I have the capabilities to custom-build a guitar pickup to meet your specific requirements.
