Burns / Vibra Artist / 1961 / Red / Guitar

Here's a rare early Burns Vibra Artist from 1961. It has some typical Burns features like a zero fret, 24 fret neck, three TriSonic pickups with a tone and volume control for each, a made by Burns vibratosystem and bridge and a heelless neck joint. It has an unusual 4cm euro jack output that could either be replaced or be used with an adapter cable. The construction is all mahogany with a 5mm thick slab rosewood fretboard. The pickups are quite powerful and give this guitar a nice growly yet chimey tone that is very distinct. While it's a pretty instrument to behold the quality of the finish and workmanship appears somewhat more homemade and rougher than later Burns instruments.

This guitar is, apart from a replaced top nut and a possible refret, in original unmodified condition. The fret slots seem overly deep for the frets that were fitted, which could point to a refret or maybe to crude factory work. While the guitar is playable as is it appears the neck set has either shifted or was quite flat from the beginning. Either way, there's very little break angle between the bridge and the vibrato which limits how far the bridge can be lowered before strings bounce out of the bridge saddles. Therefore it is not possible to adjust the action any lower than about 3mm above the 12th fret. A neck reset with increased neck-to-body angle would solve these issues, but we'll leave it up to the new owner to decide if this is necessary. We've lowered our asking price accordingly to leave budget to have this work done.
