Epiphone / Casino E230TD / 1967 / Sunburst / Guitar

This Epiphone Casino was built in the Gibson Kalamazoo plant in 1967. It has been played a lot and the lacquer is crazed all over but the colours are still very vibrant. It has a very comfortable neck shape that starts slightly narrow at the nut, but then widens and fattens up nicely.  It’s an incredibly lightweight guitar with a very bold and resonant response and a loud acoustic tone. It sounds great even unplugged but doesn’t dissapoint plugged-in.

The original P90 pickups have that perfect snarl and bite but smooth out nicely with volume and tone rolled down a bit. Whether you prefer British Invasion sounds through a VOX, mellow jazz sounds through a Deluxe Reverb or gnarly rock tones through an old JMP Marshall, this guitar will deliver.

The pickguard is a reproduction with a correct Epsilon decal. The bridge saddles were replaced with Graphtec Tusq saddles that look correct but enhance the acoustic sound more than original nylon saddles would. There are some old small lacquer touch-ups that are only visible from one single angle but this hardly detracts from the look and vibe of this guitar. Apart from a single wire that goes to a replaced output jack the pickups, pots and wiring harness are original. There’s a single replaced tuner ring but the tuners themselves, bridge, tailpiece, control knobs and pickguard bracket are also original. The frets are the original ‘fretless wonder’ type wide but low ones that are still perfectly usable, and the nut is the original Micarta part. A modern TKL hardcase is included with this guitar.

Currently this guitar is adjusted for/with D’Addario EXL145 .012-.054 nickel wound strings that enhance the acoustic response and provide a great deep plugged in tone as well.
