Epiphone / Sorrento E452T / 1964 / Sunburst / Guitar

After Gibson took over Epiphone in 1958, management decided to close the Epiphone factory in New York. They did keep the brand name to use it as a budget line alongside Gibson. So, up until 1969 all Epi guitars were built in the Gibson Kalamazoo factory. The Sorrento was marketed as a budget counterpart of the Gibson ES-125T but it has a sound of it's own because instead of the one or two P90 pickups of the ES-125 it has very different sounding minihumbuckers.

This specimen has a beautiful cherry sunburst. The single minihumbucker pickup gives a nice open and clear sound which makes it usable for many styles. The slim but not too narrow neck fits comfortably in your hand. Tuners, pickup, buttons, tailpiece and the 1964 encoded potentiometers and wiring harness are original; the pickguard and bridge are modern replicas. Also, one of the inlays was replaced and an extra screwhole was drilled in the side for a different pickguard bracket.

All in all a nice '60s Epiphone / Gibson archtop for an affordable price!
