Background:

Conde Hermanos guitars have been the industry standard for Spanish flamencos for many decades now. Conde has been the guitar of choice for the vast number of great players for many generations from Nino Ricardo and Melchor de Marchena to Paco de Lucia (who has recorded and concertized for nearly his entire career on Conde), Moraito, Gerardo Nunez, Canizares, Rafael Riqueni and the present generation's Diego del Morao and many others. They are famously known for a dry, "woody" and very firm tone, capable of retaining clarity and punch even when driven to the extreme limits of speed - whether in picado, tremolo or rasguedo techniques - these guitars can hold up and deliver a reliable and consistent quality of tone.

Felipe Conde has been building these guitars for almost 40 years - first with his father and uncle and later with his brother. Now Felipe has established his own workshop, where he is ushering in the next generation of Condes - both his son Felipe Jr. and daughter Maria are now professional luthiers working out of Madrid and GSI is proud to be the exclusive US dealer for their guitars.

Description:

This is a great concert "blanca" flamenco from Felipe Conde Crespo (aka Felipe Conde Jr.), who along with his sister Maria are the new generation of Conde builders in a family tradition that has just celebrated it's 100th anniversary in 2015. Like the flamenco guitars of his father, this based on the same dimensions and proportions as the Condes made famous by several generations of top players in Spain and around the world. It has a driving, aggressive quality that makes it the ideal solo instrument for concert settings or the recording studio. Felipe's years of apprenticeship under the watchful eyes of his father guarantee that workmanship is the usual very high standard from this shop, very clean, precise and with a refined aesthetic, not just in the beautiful rosette but also by the classic media luna head shape.

Materials are top quality, with an aged spruce soundboard and gorgeous set of cypress for the back and sides. Fitted with "machined" pegs for an old-school look but with easy ability to quickly tune with no slippage. Sound is big, raspy and piercing, yet very balanced and clear at the same time. As is the case with his father's guitars, this instrument has great power in the tradition of the leading Madrid makers of the last 50 years, and it plays easily with a gracefully shaped neck. Although used it's in excellent shape with only slight and modest playing wear. Overall, a great modern Madrid guitar with a rich and full sound.

Founded in 1983, Guitar Salon International (GSI) is the world’s largest dealer of concert-level classical and flamenco guitars. For over 35 years now, we serve players, collectors and aficionados by offering the best hand-built instruments of leading young guitar makers as well as those of established historical masters. In this process, we acquire and sell many of the most desirable instruments in history, and we subsequently help to assemble important private collections. With the involvement of top concert artists (including Pepe Romero, Scott Tennant, Marc Teicholz, Andrew York and others), GSI showcases several exceptional guitars through audio, video, studio-CD and live concert recordings.

Guitar Salon International established the GSI Foundation in 2011 after receiving public donations aimed at community development. The Foundation’s mission is to help develop the local community by raising money to support music education in public schools. These local schools are then offered assistance to pay teachers, provided with instruments for students who cannot afford them, and supplied with musicians for performances that can inspire kids to play a musical instrument.

GSI will gladly send a guitar anywhere in the world for trial and approval. Our approval period is 48 hours from the time the instrument is received. If a return is requested within 48 hours of the guitar's arrival, a full refund will be issued*** (less shipping charges and assuming original condition), or another guitar can be sent on trial.
