Fender / Jazzmaster / 1962 / Sunburst / Guitar

One of the last few to still have a rosewood slab-board, this 1962 Fender Jazzmaster is just too good to miss.

This guitar certainly has the looks. The three tone sunburst, while maybe not to everyones taste, is still so vivid with the wonderful red hue blending so beautifully into the yellow. The top has survived well with only a few marks and some light checking. The back has not fared quite so well although here there colours are still strong.

The neck has been well cared for. The lacquer is still glossy and there are only a few minor dings. The rosewood slabboard shows no real signs of use and has that wonderful dark chocolate hue. The frets too are in good shape and have plenty of life left in them.

The nitrocellulose pickguard, so often a bugbear with these Jazzmasters from the early 60s, has warped a little around the controls and the lower bout but this is only minor. Impressively AND importantly the guard hasn’t warped underneath the bridge which means it doesn’t dictate the height of the strings. The pickup covers and knobs show no signs of discolouration.

Electronically all solder joints are undisturbed apart from the neck pickup where it was removed at the pickup end for rewinding. The bridge pickup is correct and the DCR of each pickup are perfectly matched at 6.64 and 6.74 ohms.

The hardware is in good shape with only a little corrosion on the saddles. The guitar comes with its correct Brown Tolex Fender hardshell case which is in really nice shape.

It always surprises us how versatile these guitars can be, a plethora of sonic options are available. The neck pickup is smooth with the right amount of clarity whereas the bridge pickup is twangy with out being harsh. The two separate circuits add to the versatility.

If you’ve been on the hunt for a good Jazzmaster then you cannot go wrong with this one, looks and tone to match. Grab it before it gets away.
