Fender / Stratocaster / 1957 / Sunburst 2 Tone / Guitar For Sale
I celebrate every time i get a great old Strat and boy is this a superb one!! A very nice light 1957 2 tone refinished Stratocaster serial # -22XXX and a joy to play. The pick ups are original 1950s black bobbin, ... the treble pick up looks like it may have been potted and the pots all appear to be right too. The one readable pot says 304606 so they are from 1956 ... (common to 50s and 60s strats to have earlier pots. Look at the 66-70 and some 71s using all 66's etc). Tuners, tremolo system knobs and hardware are all orig. The pick guard is original and the only repair on the guitar is a small splice by by the edge of the treble pick up opening on the guard itself where it likely chipped (see 2nd to last pic). . There has been no change to the wood White and black linen wiring is orig with one exception being a yellow linen to the jack. It is likely replaced. (maybe a late 60s yellow linen). The neck was resprayed at the factory in 1963 ... SEE FACTORY STAMP R+R = restore and refinish (last pic) There is no neck date remaining BUT the body date of 7-57 was saved in the middle p.u. cavity and the ink and writing look right too. The neck's profile is more like a late 57 into 1958. Not as bulky as an early 57 or not nearly as pronounced a V. Just a tiny hint of the V or elliptical More of a moderate C shape. Because it is undated there is a possibility that the neck may be 1958 but it is not narrow and skimpy as a 1959 neck. There were some late 1959 and early 60 strats (mostly slab rosewood boards tho) with factory undated necks due to an obscenity written by an employee but this does not have that feel and likely lost it's date in the re-shoot. Definitely a late 50s neck though and the uncertainty of it being late 57 as reported to us is why we aren't asking $16k like most of the other 50s refins you'll see this close to orig. Driven by a very sweet sounding and bold set of 3 1950s black back pick ups that make this baby. sing!! Comes with a newer thermometer case.
