Fender / Stratocaster / 1958 / Sunburst / Guitar For Sale

Nice 1958 Fender Stratocaster in  sunburst finish, maple neck and reasonably priced for today's market....

Regardless of how you feel about them, the Fender three tone sunburst has a special place in the history of the electric guitar with the pre-CBS period having some of the best. This one from 1958 is one of the first examples and as you can see from the pics is reasonably worn but plays like a demon and sounds as good as anything we have here.

There are a few  marks on the front and a few more substantial ones on the back and there is what may be some water damage or similar at on the bottom from of the guitar. The other issue to point out is there has been a minor repair by the bridge where it looks like someone tied to chock up the trem but broke through to the top. This is what we have been told anyhow..

Body is dated August 1958 and pots are dated 25th week of 1958. The neck is pencil dated 6-58, is in good shape but it has been refretted with large frets. A new nut has also been installed. It has some great play wear on the fingerboard that looks great with the rest of the guitar. Some of the wear to the fingerboard has caused a few of the black dots to virtually disappear.

Plastics and pickguard are well preserved and appear all correct or original.

There is some corrosion on the saddles and tuners but both items work fine, elsewhere the hardware is in great condition with signs of good use. Electrically all is as you’d expect and solder joints are undisturbed. All three pickups are healthy and it sounds great!

Sonically we run the gamut from smooth neck to biting bridge that never gets too spikey or harsh. The neck feels very comfortable and the new frets give it reassuring feel. All three, original black bottom pickups are strong and evenly balanced with classic pre-CBS black bottom, bell like tonal qualities.

As it has had a refret this is also an excellent player and there should be no complaints in that department!

A cool 50's, maple neck Strat  in this condition, what more do you want? Nicely priced too..!
