Fender / Stratocaster / 1963 / Candy Apple Red / Guitar For Sale

1963 Fender Stratocaster Candy Apple Red - Serial: L23458

This is one of the very first Fender guitars to receive a “Candy Apple” translucent red finish over its metallic finish.

You’ve surely heard that “Fender used Silver as an undercoat for C.A.R. until 1965, and then used gold”. This is inaccurate and incorrect. Infact Fender developed Candy Apple Red to use both Shoreline Gold and Inca Silver as a base color.

In 1965 they changed both of those with their Firemist counterparts, and since Firemist Silver has a blue shade in it, which doesn’t get well with red (blue+red=purple), after 1965 they used Firemist Gold only as base coat.

But in 1963 they sprayed the see through red paint over finished bodies, like is the case for this Shoreline Gold over white primer guitar.

If the amazing Shoreline Gold color wasn’t enough, they chose one of the most amazing pieces of flamed maple we’ve ever seen, paired to a beautiful dark grained Brazilian rosewood board.

This guitar it’s the ultimate addition to any Fender Collection!
