Fender Stratocaster (1964/1965) – Lake Placid Blue

We are pleased to offer this 1964/65 Stratocaster from Fender, finished in its original Lake Placid Blue custom color.

Fender’s custom color finishes were officially available from 1960, but examples from the pre-CBS period were produced in relatively limited numbers and remain increasingly difficult to find. Lake Placid Blue is among the most sought-after custom colors from this era.

This example was produced during the late-1964 to early-1965 transition period. The neck is dated November 1964, the potentiometer code dates to the 1st week of 1965, and the pickup dates are from January and February 1965.

It retains the key features associated with early-1965 production, including a green pickguard and Brazilian rosewood fingerboard.

The guitar shows wear and weather checking consistent with age, while remaining in overall excellent-plus vintage condition.

The nut and frets have been replaced to ensure good playability. Aside from a few replaced small parts, including some bridge saddle height screws, the remaining components are reported to be original.

Tonally, it delivers the characteristic pre-CBS Stratocaster response from this period.
