Fender / Stratocaster / 1964 / Olympic White / Guitar

From our one of our favourite years for Fender, we give you this 1964 Fender Stratocaster in Olympic White

Following discussions with the previous owner, it seems the body of this guitar was refinished before 1971. As you can see from the photos, it’s evident that the guitar was originally finished in sunburst and probably due to the popularity of a certain Mr James Marshall Hendrix and the increased demand for custom colours, repainted Olympic White.

Whoever did the refin did a superb job in authentic nitro although a base coat of grey primer was applied. The guitars has been very well cared for, the expected wear is present but isn’t heavy. The celluloid pickguard is in good shape with only one crack near the neck pickup, a common fault with these guards. The neck has been refretted in the 80s and the lacquer on the back of the neck has been rubbed back by the previous owner. Both jobs have been done well and the neck is otherwise in original condition, including the decal.

We are lucky to have in our store right now an all original 1962 Olympic White Strat and when you put this one up against the original one, you will be challenged to tell which is the refin and which is the original body refin. It really is that good…!

The electronics have been returned to original spec as again the previous owner had installed a 5-way switch. The pots are correct and no other wiring had been disturbed although the neck pickup has been rewound to all original spec and you would never be able to tell tonally and it would take an expert to tell visually.

The guitar comes with a hardshell case.

This guitar certainly delivers tonally. Those classic mid-60’s Strat sounds can be found here, all three pickups are well balanced and blend well in the in-between settings. It takes an instrument like this to remind us how versatile the Stratocaster and how iconic those tones are.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but market forces will always win out. Here’s your chance to get your hands on an iconic instrument in the correct colour even if it didn’t leave Fullerton in the right jacket….
