Fender / Stratocaster Owned By George Terry From The Eric Clapton Group / 1965 / Natural Finish / Guitar For Sale

This is a wonderful example of Fender’s famous Stratocaster from the mid-60’s with some Rock Star ownership history. George Terry was a local player here in Hollywood Florida & was as big as anyone back in the day while playing w/Eric Clapton for years as well as having royalties from writing the infamous “Lay Down Sally”. George Terry is an American rock and blues guitarist and songwriter best known for his work with Eric Clapton in the 1970s and as a session musician with other artists, including ABBA, the Bee Gees, Joe Cocker, Andy Gibb, Freddie King, Diana Ross, Stephen Stills, and Kenny Rogers. George has owned many Stratocasters over the last 50 years & this is one he used back when touring w/Mr. Clapton. Its alder body has been refinished in a clear lacquer w/some black anti-hum spray in its cavity. The original Rosewood Neck is dated from August 1965. It’s been refretted for sure & has 2 extra screw holes from string trees now removed & touched up. The transition logo appears original but is not. Its loaded w/a trio of original pickups dated to 2-12-65 in a nice white’gard. Her 3 pot codes date to the 14th week of 1965. It’s wearing a set of Kluson double line tuners. This Strat is excellent overall w/a great feel & playability. It comes complete w/its original black tolex hard case that’s spray painted “Eric Clapton Group” & Georges typical warning of a “Delicate Electronic Instrument”. It also sports the initials GT SB for George Terry ! Lastly check out the photo of George in the middle surrounded by Eric to his left & Todd Rungren to his right. Imaging how many time George played Lay Down Sally on this as well as you know Eric played this a few times over the years (see pic). What a piece of Music history in this bad boy !

From Wikipedia: George Terry is a South Florida guitarist, bassist, and songwriter, who began playing with several bands in the late 1960s, including GAME who released two albums in 1970 and 1971. Terry was the group’s featured lead guitarist and bassist, and wrote several songs on both albums. In 1974, while working on the album that would become 461 Ocean BoulevardEric Clapton hired Terry as a full-time member of his band. While the band recorded the album, Terry brought the Bob Marley and the Wailers album Burnin’ to Clapton, stating he really liked the song “I Shot the Sheriff”. He persuaded Clapton to record his own version of the song, which the band convinced Clapton to include on the album because they felt it had commercial potential. Terry also wrote the last track on the album, “Mainline Florida”, which “breaks away from the established tone of the record” and features Clapton using a talk box during his outgoing solo. Terry’s work with Clapton as a guitarist and songwriter continued through the 1970s, with Terry co-authoring the 1977 song “Lay Down Sally“.
