Fender Japan produced instruments that were well known for their excellent build quality, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s, often matching or exceeding their U.S. counterparts in terms of fit and finish. The "TL71" model is a reissue of the Telecaster design as it appeared around 1971, which notably included a large, bold '70s-style Fender decal on the headstock. The ash body is a key feature of this specific model and contributes to its bright, resonant, and punchy sound. The TL71/ASH models are known for having a one-piece maple neck with an "Oval Type C" or U-shape profile and a vintage 7.25-inch fingerboard radius, prioritizing vintage correctness and feel over modern playability features.
