True Vintage Guitar, USA
My vision for True Vintage Guitar is to be a resource for people local and abroad for rare guitars and amplifiers as well as information on music and history. I started this adventure with a few extra bucks and a passion for finding rare guitars. My free time was quickly taken up with either studying the history of American made vintage guitars or searching them out. In 2014, I decided to pursue this passion full time. My days are now taken up driving across the southeastern United States to find guitars and bring them to people at guitar shows, online and here in Birmingham.
EVERY GUITAR TELLS A STORY
True Vintage Guitar started in 2009 when I bought my first vintage guitar, a 1972 Martin D-35. Since then I have been delving into the culture around these instruments and haven’t looked back. My favorite part of this adventure are the stories that come with an instrument that’s been in the family a long time. A recent purchase, a 1956 Gibson Country Western, was not without hard work and a great story. I ended up in a trailer park outside of Johnson City, TN at 11:30 at night trying to make a deal. The sellers were very nice people but not familiar with vintage guitars. This guitar had been poorly stored, was missing strings and needed a lot of skilled repair work. I explained the current state of the guitar to the sellers and we were able to make a deal that benefitted us both. The guitar had belonged to her dad, a Baptist preacher who loved to play in church. His daughter learned to play on that guitar and thought that it needed stickers that said “God Is Love” all across the front. Now that it’s back home with me, it will be properly humidified and repaired to optimum playing condition. That Gibson will be back to country pickin’ in no time!
HOW CAN I HELP YOU?
Whether it’s buying or selling, I promise to treat you with respect every step of the way. My desire is to educate the public so that they can be as passionate about these instruments as I am. I get a lot of emails from people who have a guitar asking what it is they have and what it is worth. I often tell people that those phone calls are the best part of my work day. Talking about vintage guitars is a large part of why I decided to go full-time. I would love to share my knowledge and passion for vintage guitars with you.
