This is a very sweet & extremely low production 1958 Explorer “Historic” Reissue by Gibson’s Custom Shop made in 1998. Its natural Korina wood construction is spot on & nicely figured. Its loaded w/2 powerful PAF pickups & sport the correct gold 6-in-line Kluson tuners. Its got a repro white pickgard as it had another pickgard at some point & has a few tiny screw holes that are completely under cover & unnoticeable. As far as anyone can estimate…Gibson made & shipped perhaps 38 original Explorers between 1958 & 1964. Locating a Gibson Historic series Korina Explorer is not easy these days. The guitar is light and plays & sounds incredible with great low action. The grain of the 1 piece Korina body has nice figuring & is reminiscent of the originals. Most of the Historics I’ve seen had rather bland grain. This one looks the part ! The latest Gibson Korina Explorers that recently hit the market for $9,999.00 are “two piece” bodies. As with the originals this has a correct one piece body. This natural finished Korina Explorer is 1 guitar to add to your personal collection. With the latest Korina Explorer aged by my friend, “Tom Murphy” & priced at $34K. & sold out in a few days, this example is a once in a lifetime find so don’t miss it. Other than a few weather checks on its heel area, it’s exceptionally clean overall & comes in its original square shaped pink lined Brown hard case.
