Gibson / A Style Mandolin Natural / 1918 / Stringed Instrument For Sale

The Gibson A-Style mandolin has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century when Orville Gibson founded the Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Manufacturing Company in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The A-Style mandolin was introduced as one of Gibson's earliest models, featuring a teardrop-shaped body with a carved, domed top and an oval soundhole. These instruments were originally designed to meet the demand of the mandolin orchestras that swept America during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. By 1918, Gibson had firmly established itself as a leading manufacturer of mandolins, guitars and other stringed instruments. The year 1918 falls within the so-called "Golden Era" of Gibson mandolins, characterized by exceptional craftsmanship, high-quality materials and innovative design features. Mandolins produced during this era are highly sought after by collectors and musicians for their superior tone and playability. This Gibson A-Style Mandolin with serial number 41588 is a wonderful example of the brand's craftsmanship, because the mandolin plays and sounds exceptionally well! The warm and full sound will immediately surprise you at the first touch, and the Adirondack spruce top also contributes to the high volume. The mandolin also has a birch back and sides that are accompanied by a V-shaped mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard. The sound is very powerful in the low end, making the high end slightly less prominent. When looking at this mandolin it is hard to believe that it was first played 106 years ago, but it is true! Apart from expected playwear, the mandolin is exceptionally clean and has clearly been well maintained throughout its long musical life. It is fascinating to see the original parts, because they show dates such as 1898, 1909 and 1911 as the date of application for the various Gibson patents. Unfortunately, the Gibson logo has disappeared from the headstock, or was never applied to it. This mandolin travels in its original case and is without a doubt a desirable piece of music history, and with its beautiful sound it is still as relevant as it was over a century ago!

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
