Gibson / A2 Mandolin Sheraton Brown / 1920 / Stringed Instrument For Sale

The A-Style mandolin was introduced as one of Gibson's earliest models, featuring a teardrop-shaped body with a carved, arched top and an oval sound hole. These instruments were originally designed to meet the demand of the mandolin orchestras that swept America during the late 1800s and early 1900s. By the early 1920s, Gibson had firmly established itself as a leading manufacturer of mandolins, guitars, and other stringed instruments. Around this time, the so-called "Golden Era" of Gibson mandolins began, characterized by exceptional craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and innovative design features. Mandolins produced during this era are highly sought after by collectors and musicians for their superior tone and playability. This Gibson A2 Mandolin with serial number 57373 was built in 1920, and is a beautiful example of the craftsmanship of the brand, because the mandolin plays and sounds really unprecedentedly good! The warm and full sound will immediately surprise you at the first touch, and the spruce top also contributes to the high volume. The mandolin also has a birch back and sides that are accompanied by a V-shaped mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard. The sound is very powerful in the low, which makes the high slightly less prominent. From 1918 onwards, the A2 was provided with a Sheraton Brown finish. The mandolin also has features such as the oval sound hole with a rosette consisting of two rings, a single binding on both the front and back of the body and a large headstock with 'The Gibson' logo. The mandolin has collected playing traces that show that we are dealing with a beloved instrument, and that is certainly audible! It is fascinating to see the original parts, because they show dates such as 1898, 1909 and 1911 as the date of application of the various patents of Gibson. The mandolin has also had a refret where unfortunately the binding has also been sawn. Furthermore, the mandolin has a repaired headstock crack, and the bridge has been made lower at the top. Finally, it is noticeable that the pickguard is missing, and the tuning machines have also been replaced. The mandolin comes in a modern hardshell case, but the original case is also included.

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand.
