Gibson / Casino E230TD / 1964 / Sunburst / Guitar

1964 Epiphone Casino E230TD, Sunburst finish in good condition with the original case. It has the wide nut, two P-90 pickups, all nickel hardware, gold knobs and an “E” Vibrola.  Probable re-fret, which has been done well - theres no disturbance to the fretboard and changed pots. Serial: 177041. Weight: 6lbs 10.5oz. Nut width: 42 mm. Depth at 1st fret: 21 mm. Depth at 12th fret: 24.5 mm.

The finish on the body is in good shape with only a few  small scuffs/dings. The finish on the back of the neck has some play wear which has worn the finish but doesn't expose the wood. The pickguard has warped which is often the case. The frets are in great shape and all hardware & electronics are in excellent working order. The binding is all intact. The headstock has scuffs and wear around the edges. There is lacquer checking throughout the finish. There are no breaks or repairs. Everything remains structurally sound.

This guitar has been fully checked over & set up in our workshop and is an all-round excellent sounding and playing guitar. Set up with a low action allowing for very smooth movement around the fretboard. It has a big rich tone both plugged in and acoustically.

The Casino E230TD was introduced by Gibson in 1961 and is the equivalent of the ES-330. It has the same pick-up configuration and hollow body construction. The main differences being the white pickguard, and headstock design.

In 1964 Paul McCartney went shopping for a new guitar that could give him the overdriven blues sound of artists like Otis Rush, he reached for a Casino. (his had the shorter headstock) John Lennon and George Harrison soon bought their own and used their Casinos on stage and at Abbey Road throughout the band’s career. Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys, Paul Weller of the Jam, and Noel Gallagher of Oasis are just a few of the players who made great records with Casinos.
