Gibson Custom Shop / Alvin Lee ES-335 ** ON HOLD ** / 2003 / Red / Guitar

I wish I could say that I truly understood the effect Alvin Lee had on the face of Rock and Roll, but I can't. When Ten Years After banged out their epic set at Woodstock in August of 1969, I was only 6 years old and doomed to have missed one of the greatest periods of music history. My actual introduction to Rock music was in 1975 with four artists: Kiss, Alice Cooper, Bachman- Turner Overdrive and Deep Purple. Those four bands set what was to be my musical path in life and so the 60's never really played into my exploration of Rock music and it's evolution. Because there was that six- year period between Woodstock and the popping of my "musical cherry", Alvin Lee unfortunately fell into that missed period so when we first acquired this guitar, I really wasn't aware of who and what he really represented. Thank God for YouTube. I did some digging and found "I'm Going Home", from TYA's set at Woodstock and to be honest, I had no danged idea. That man tore it up with a fervor rarely seen in this day and time and I watched the whole 11 minutes, 24 seconds of that video three times straight. Now I "get" it and had I been at that concert, Alvin would have most certainly been one of my guitar heroes from that time. Great chops, feel and soul- things that are sorely missing from today's music scene and possibly ones never to be recovered. Hell, let's be honest- There will never, ever, EVER be another Woodstock in the history of our species, so if you were there, you're one of the lucky ones that will be notated in the history of our planet. As they say, "Those days are gone, but not forgotten"... As to this particular guitar, it's the first of a run of signed, Gibson Custom Shop reproductions of Alvin's famed "Big Red." I would think that, as an aficionado of guitars and an Alvin Lee fan, I would desire one of these pieces and if somebody gave me my choice of which one I could have, I definitely would want the first one offered to the public. Here is that chance, so indulge yourself with a reminder of the great days of Rock and Roll and now it's back to YouTube to discover what I've been missing all these years...
