Gibson / EB1 Bass / 1954 / Bass For Sale

This 1954 EB1 is a true museum piece that helped write bass guitar history. With its compact double-cut body, banjo tuners and authentic vintage charm, this bass represents the pioneering days of the electric bass, when Gibson was experimenting with this revolutionary new instrument. To compete with the big acoustic basses, you can even unscrew the endpin and screw in an extra pin that allows the bass to be used upright. In 1954, Gibson first ventured into the electric bass, just a few years after Leo Fender introduced the Precision Bass. However, Gibson took a completely different approach with their Electric Bass - as it was then simply called. Where Fender opted for a traditional guitar-like construction, Gibson designed a compact, violin-like body with a short 30.5 inch scale. It wasn't until 1958, when the EB2 was introduced, that this model was retroactively called the EB1. This EB1 belongs to an extremely rare group of instruments - Gibson produced only 125 of this groundbreaking bass in 1954. The unique design with its mahogany body, Kluson banjo tuners and single coil pickup made this instrument something completely different from anything else on the market. The short scale and compact size gave the bass a warm, round sound that was perfect for the jazz music for which Gibson designed it. The condition of this EB1 is truly remarkable for an instrument that is over 70 years old. The natural finish has developed a beautiful patina over the years with light playwear and a few dings, and the guitar still has its original hardware such as the pickguard, bridge, pickup cover and tuners. The screw holes on the back of the headstock show that the tuners have been replaced at some point, and a headstock crack can also be seen to have been repaired. For the collector, this bass represents not only a rare piece of Gibson history, but also a pivotal moment in the evolution of the electric bass. It is an instrument that marks the transition from the acoustic double bass to the modern electric bass as we know it today. The bass comes with TFOA passport in the original hardshell case. ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
