Gibson / ES-175 / 1970 / Blond / Guitar
Gibson ES-175DN Model Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Guitar, c. 1970, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 125085, natural lacquer finish, laminated maple body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.
A very nice blonde ES-175D, with a transitional feel between the '60's and '70's. The neck is three-piece mahogany with no volute but a "Made in USA" stamp, with the newer larger headstock profile. The pickups are still the patent-number 1960's style units, with later '60's pattern "witch hat" knobs. All hardware is chrome plated. The 175 is one of those Gibson classics that never seems to falter, and like nearly all this is an excellent instrument, the epitome of a vintage jazz guitar but versatile enough to do almost anything.
Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/8 in. (8.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). A nice clean guitar overall, with some minor repair but in excellent playing condition. The tuners were replaced with Schallers long ago, resulting in a clear overspray to the back of the headstock (that also covers an old chip to the top back edge). The rest of the finish shows only some light wear; everything else is original and complete except the outside nut on the pickguard bracket. A good sounding, great playing blonde 175 from the dawn of the '70's. Overall Excellent - Condition.
