Gibson ES-335TD (1958) – First Year, Unbound Neck

Offered is a 1958 ES-335TD from Gibson, representing the first year of production for this model.

Introduced in 1958, the ES-335T featured a thinline semi-hollow construction with a solid center block, establishing a design that has remained in continuous production.

This example is an early unbound neck version, a specification unique to the first year. It also features a shallow neck set angle typical of this period, along with a factory-correct Tune-o-matic bridge matched to this geometry. Early construction details include thinner laminated top and back materials compared to later examples.

The instrument shows wear and weather checking consistent with age, while remaining in overall excellent vintage condition.

The guitar has been refretted and fitted with a replacement nut for improved playability. Two potentiometers have been replaced with 1970s units. The original Kluson tuners retain replacement buttons. There is evidence of a previously installed Bigsby unit, with mounting marks noted but described as minimal.

The remaining components, including pickups and hardware, are reported to be original.
