Gibson / Firebird VII / 1964 / Sunburst / Guitar

A rare and beautiful guitar. You do not see many original 1964 Gibson Firebird VII’s out there, Gibson never made a lot of this flagship model and to get one that has survived without a headstock repair from that ‘coffin of death’ case is rare and unfortunately, this is not one of them…

The good news is the repair is one of the best pieces of repair work I have seen and if you look at the pictures you can see it has been very expertly blended in and does not look that bad. You can not in fact feel it at all. It has not been refinished and you do have to look a quite closely to see it - have a look at the pictures in the Gallery section and you will see exactly what I mean.

Other good news is everything else on this uber cool guitar is all correct and it plays and looks fantastic. Slick ebony fingerboard with original frets. Fast, low action and 3 x mini humbuckers that give a credible Strat impression in the middle position. Very cool for funk.

Original case is in very good condition but does have the usual broken handle that is currently sporting a temporary repair. Guitar also comes with a modernish Gibson 90’s Firebird case that you can use to take this on the road if you wish. Guitar was recently purchased from a talented, young blues player and this is what he used when he took it to sessions or gigs etc…

This superb Firebird VII, in this condition, would be a 20k guitar if it didn’t have the usual repair so I do think it is a pretty reasonable deal at just under 9k…
