Gibson Historic Collection / CC #1, Gary Moore Les Paul R9 ** ON HOLD ** / 2010 / Unburst / Guitar

This guitar makes me crazy happy. Why? Because I know I am one of the many who appreciated Gary's talents while he was here. I remember the first time I actually heard him. I was sitting in my '74 Camaro (the one with the dent on the driver's side quarter panel- nice). Windows were down, with a summer breeze blowing, when the ominous chord structure of "End the the World" seeped through those Jensen 6 x 9 Triaxe speakers. I had the same reaction to this as I did five years earlier when I first heard "Eruption" and only guitarists will understand what I'm talking about here. You know, when you hear something that brilliant, you do one of two things: Either you burn your guitar and amp simultaneously or you figure out that damn lick note for note. The album was "Corridors of Power", the song was Gary's "Eruption" and the world and I took notice. This guy came front and center, no longer a footnote in Thin Lizzy folklore but a genuine teenage idol. Years later, I had my burning bush experience when I actually played Gary's real 'Burst in Dallas, Texas. I remembered holding that mystical guitar and thought on how many times Gary would squeeze every single, pained note from it when he played "Parisian Walkways". The countless tours and endless songs that where written on it between Gary and Peter Green were etched into the very soul of the guitar. The promise between those two profound guitarist that, if this guitar was ever sold, it (Greeny) would come back to her rightful owner. I tell you, that was a special guitar and my privilege as not only a guitarist and Gary fan, but a historian to actually hold her. It was as if the magic of that guitar would, in fact possess me. I know all too well the old saying: "It's not the wand, but the wizard". If that wasn't the case, I would buy some Air Jordans and be able to dunk a basketball. This Collector's Choice #1 is a fitting tribute to Gary, his legacy and his craft. I think his body of work and this guitar both speak for themselves and if you have any questions, you already know what to do...
