Gibson / Les Paul Junior ** ON HOLD ** / 1958 / Cherry Red / Guitar

When I owned an electronic repair service for 18 years, I went on service calls in a lot of homes. A lot and in all that time, I was bitten three times by a dog. Twice by a Chihuahua and once by a Cocker Spaniel. The Spaniel bite was no big deal, but the Chihuahua experiences were something to remember. Those dogs were bug- eyed, snaggle- toothed little growlers that were always pissed at something and in at least two cases, that "something" was moi. They were like little 4 pound, aggravated rats that weren't afraid of anything, so when we purchased this guitar from the original owner, the strange memory of those little dogs came to my mind (I don't know why- could be a synapse disconnect from the 70's). So, in that respect, I guess you could consider this '58 Les Paul Junior as the Chuhuahua of the guitar world. It weighs only 6 lbs, 7 oz and has a fat neck. It's a snarly little beast and has more pissy attitude than Gwyneth Paltrow at a Saturday afternoon barbeque in Texas. I would never have thought that a 50's student guitar could be such an awesome producer of great tone after all these decades, but I'm here to testify that the above is nothing but true. Of course, you will find the requisite dings and bumps, but if you were 66 years old, you'd have a couple of battle-scars too. No matter, the guitar performs and sounds as if it were just off the factory floor yesterday and is still one of the best deals going on the vintage market today. As to the case, it's beat. The handle's gone and I have to honestly say that it is structurally compromised, but if you're a working axe- slinger, you're going to put this guitar in a hard case before leaving the house anyway. On the upside, the original strap is included in the package, so it helps to compensate for the case being hammered. Players and collectors, this Junior is certainly one of the "good ones", so jump Judy before someone puts her to work and as always, thank you for your consideration.
