1954 Gibson Les Paul PAF Conversion
Black Magic Vintage Guitars is pleased to offer this exceptional 1954 Gibson Les Paul PAF conversion.
The project began in 2019, when Jim at Jam City Guitars converted an original 1954 Goldtop to PAF specification. Once the original gold finish was removed, the maple top revealed striking natural figure underneath.
The guitar received the appropriate humbucker routes together with a neck reset, before being sent to Kim at Historic Makeovers for its beautifully executed Iced Tea finish.
The resulting instrument brings together genuine 1950s Gibson wood with an especially strong collection of original period components.
The tuners, truss rod cover, pickguard, pickguard bracket, and switch tip are original to the guitar from 1954. The wiring harness, potentiometers, and bonnet knobs come from a 1958 Gibson ES-175, while the two double-black PAF humbuckers were sourced from a 1959 Gibson ES-345 and have never been rewound.
The PAFs measure 7.6k in the neck and 7.9k in the bridge.
The neck measures approximately .88 inches at the 1st fret and .95 inches at the 12th fret, providing a substantial but comfortable vintage profile. The guitar weighs just over 9 lbs and is described as very well balanced.
The switch plate, back plates, pickup rings, bridge, and stop tailpiece are all high-quality reproduction parts.
The guitar is accompanied by a 1950s four-latch Lifton case.
