Gibson / Les Paul Standard R9 VOS / 2013 / Sunburst / Guitar

Again at ATB we’re entering the murky waters of early 2010s and emerging with another gem from a good period in Gibson’s Les Paul output.

This guitar has a stunning top that gorgeously accentuated by the slow fade iced tea finish (though it could be a kentucky bourbon burst, who knows!) but it really shows off the flamed top. The guitar as a whole is in superb condition showing some mild signs of light use.

Under the hood, the guitar features a pair of late 60’s patent number pickups that were fitted by the previous owner. The covers are modern nickel examples but the pole pieces are chromed and correct for this pickup. As you can see from the images, they both still have the correct sticker.

Its a joy to play with a sublime ‘59 profile neck and the Patent Number pickups delivering an arguably more authentic sound, definitely an unexpected bonus for such a wonderful instrument.

A unique piece due in no small part to the pickups, this is a great looking guitar which certainly captures that burst look. The last few LP R9’s we had from 2013/14 did not stick around for long…
