Gibson / SJ200 Sunburst Rare Vintage Guitar / 1940 / Guitar

English: Only about 90 of Gibson’s most elaborate and high end flattop were made before WW2, after which it changed in so many respects to make production cheaper that it essentially became a different, much less desirable instrument (still very good, though). Prewar specimens are the most desirable Gibson guitar in history, not only due to rarity but also because of the quality of material and workmanship, and ultimately: sound. A rosewood SJ-200 roars like no other guitar while still maintaining a surprising amount of responsiveness irrespective of its size. This particular guitar shows how much it has been loved and played, but the playing wear is all in the right places to make for an incredible patina and vibe. Even though the model in its original version was short-lived, only 4 years, the surviving specimens show a surprising variety of features. This particular instrument happily combines what most vintage lovers see as the most desirable features of the model very highly figured rosewood (while most others are rather plain) pointed fingerboard end (while many have a square end) rich dark sunburst (while most were of a lighter variety) gold plated engraved Grover G-98 tuning machines (while others have the bulky Klusons) In short: amongst the rarest of the rare, this particular guitar is perhaps the most desirable due to the combination of features – and its tone. When some restoration, expertly and mostly undetectable, was done to it, the seasoned Nashville luthier whom it was entrusted, and who has had a great many of vintage come through his workshop, pointed out that he regarded this particular instrument as the best sounding vintage guitar he has come across in his entire career. This guitar comes with the Correct “tweed” (with two stripes) Period case- This guitar is more than just another guitar, vintage Martin and Gibson Flattops have proven to be a firm investment as well and they don't come much rarer. ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
